AKSU seeks to maximize benefits of CIPM 2019 National Conference

In furtherance of the Human Capital developmental drive by the management of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), some personnel of the institution from the Directorate of Human Resources (DHR), over the course of this week were privileged to attend the 51st Annual National Conference of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

The conference, which ran from Tuesday the 22nd of October to Thursday the 24th of October 2019, was a gathering of HR Experts and attracted some 2,700 delegates from different fields and sectors across West Africa. This year's theme was “Disruption: Change the Game”.

CIPM conference 2019, was strategically designed to help individuals, corporations and government proactively adapt through equipping business leaders and HR professionals with required toolkits for the future. The event featured 5 Plenary Sessions, 6 Master Classes, 4 Syndicate Sessions and 2 Career Development Sessions

Each of the Conference sessions was geared towards shared learning and proffering contemporary solutions to the challenges arising in the workplace. The solutions so proffered is sure to help in shaping and reshaping policy direction in private and public sectors of the economy; thus contributing to sustainable national development.


Speakers that featured in the event were: Osayi Alile (Chief Executive Officer, Aspire Coronation Trust (Act) Foundation), Chris Pether (CEO, Peoplesmart), Akpos Adonkie (HR Manager, Total E & P), Timi Tope Ologunoye (Executive General Manager, HR & Shared Services, Genesis Group), Taiwo Judah-Ajayi (Chief People Officer, GOKADA), Rosemond Bene Ebe-Arthur (Group Head, Human Capital & Development, First Bank Nigeria LTD. & Subsidiaries), Pai Gamde (Chief Talent Officer at Coronation Group), Enahoro Simeon Okhae (Managing Director of Pause Factory (West African Partner to 6 Seconds Emotional Intelligence Network (USA)), Didi Esther Walson-Jack, mni (Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs) and Jordi Borrut Bel (Managing Director/CEO, Nigerian Breweries PLC).

Each of the speakers above took charge of various sessions that was interactive and engaging with perspectives from speakers across diverse sectors. Topics that were handled in the course of the conference ranged from

  • Sustaining the Human in HR Practices: The Impact of AI, Robotics and Technological Disruptions

The facilitators for the 2019 CIPM Conference were: Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (Nigeria's Vice President), Justice Kenneth Amadi (National Industrial Court of Nigeria), Dennis Zulu, Director (ILO Country Office Nigeria, Sierra Leone), Isa Inuwa (COO, Corporate Services, NNPC), Uyi Akpata (Country Senior Partner, PwC Nigeria), Jordi Borrut Bel (Managing Director, Nigerian Breweries PLC), Dr. Joe Abah (former DG, Bureau of Public Reforms) among a host of other thought leaders.


The contingent from AKSU had at the end of the Conference, departed Abuja enroute Akwa Ibom State University and have all promised to maximize what they had learnt and contribute their quota to repositioning the University for better, improved and efficient service delivery.

The team had earlier expressed profound appreciation to the University Vice Chancellor for all the support and encouragement that staff of the institution have received and continue to receive, over the course of the last several years.
