The wife of the Akwa Ibom State Executive Governor, Deaconess Martha Udom Emmanuel, has charged University women to brace-up and showcase their Excellency. She gave the admonition during a one-day workshop that was organized by the Akwa Ibom State University Women’s Association (AKSUWA) on Thursday, the 25th of April 2019 under the theme “the Excellency of Womanhood”.

She noted that “the workshop couldn't have come at a more auspicious time than now when Akwa Ibom State is joining the rest of Nigeria in the global community’s clamor for more women involvement in the affairs that affect our polity”.
God has endowed women with so many talents, but because of situations that surround us, women tend to be incapacitated. We are suppressed! But thank God, things have begun to change

Deaconess Martha observed that women are carriers of Excellency and they should always endeavor to come together to support themselves, in order to be well positioned to compete in today’s society. She submitted that the role of creativity and innovation by women cannot be over-emphasized.
“God created women for a purpose, not just to bare children. Women were created to add valve to the society and that we will surely do”

In her welcome address, the President of AKSUWA, Dr Ebi Eno-Ibanga highlighted the mission of AKSUWA to include supporting women's professional/personal development through education/training, promoting peace/justice among University women, building the capacity of women through entrepreneurship, stimulating intellectual attainment among women/the girl child, providing responsive, supportive/innovative services to women, promoting the potentialities of womanhood and acting as a catalyst for the development of women in the University and community as a whole. She identified “every woman as a star, who deserves to be treated as a queen”

Earlier during the event, the Vice-Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University – Prof Eno Ibanga had noted that God created women as stabilizers, stating that “they are the ones that make everything to happen including humanity”. Prof Ibanga informed Her Excellency that Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) is a very unique University that has all of her academic programmes accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
“The giant feats accomplished by Akwa Ibom State University wouldn’t have happened without the very strong support of His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel and for this, we remain very grateful”

In her Keynote address, Rt.(Hon) Dr. Ekaete Ebong Okon traced the role of women in Nigeria’s economic development and submitted that no society has ever developed without the active participation of women. She noted that “the participation of women in governance and politics is of strategic importance not only of women empowerment, but because of its wider befits and impact on the society”.
“Gone are the days when you have the women relegated to the background. The notion of educated women ending up in the kitchen does not apply to the women of this age, as they combine motherhood with their respective careers”

The event featured drama presentation by AKSU Performing Arts students, presentation of Goodwill messages and award of prizes. It was attended by several eminent men and women.
