On Saturday the 15th of December 2018, the family of Comr. Ukeme Jacob ‘ABACHA’ came together to bid their late mother farewell in a funeral service that was conducted by Sanctified Mount Zion Church of Nigeria, Abak Assembly.

Delivering his sermon, the Officiating Minister, Reverend Bassey Ette charged the family to endeavour to remain united, forge a common front  and to continue to grow in the fear of the Lord. He recalled Hebrews 9:27 that states "and as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgement"

The man of God paid glowing tribute to the Late Mary Essien Atai, whom he described as a dedicated child of God, who had contributed in no small measure to the growth and expansion of the work of God in Abak District.

Making a remark in the course of the service, the Vice-Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University, Prof Eno Ibanga who was accompanied by his amiable wife, expressed gratitude to God and the church for the role they have played and continue to play, in moulding the character of people, especially the young ones. Prof Ibanga said he was impressed by the strength of character that Comr. Ukeme Jacob displayed throughout his days as a student in Akwa Ibom State University.

Comr Ukeme the Vice Chancellor went further,  was once the Secretary-General of AKSU Students’ Union and throughout his tenure, he positively impacted on the students of the University. He challenged other students to continually aspire to greatness. As the mark of his contribution to the family of the deceased, Prof. Ibanga announced that he and his family will extend a hand of scholarship to one member of the deceased family and "ensure that he/she acquires education to the highest level".

The Executive Chairman of Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Anthony Udousung also reminisced on the times his family had shared with the deceased, whom he described as a dedicated and faithful Messenger of God. He wished that Late Mary Essien Atai JP had lived a little longer. He also offered to support the family to the best of his ability.
