Who does not love free WIFI? Students in tertiary institutions across the country are about to have the time of their lives because a free WIFI service is coming to Universities across the country.

As a way to boost tertiary education in Nigerian Universities, Surfwella, a free Wi-Fi facility has said their service will be made available in selected Nigerian Universities effective last Sunday. Olusola Bankole, the Chief Marketing Officer of Surfwella has revealed that the firm would make available the free Wi-Fi in all University campuses in the country.

This action Bankole said, is a part of Surfwella's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. It is an indigenous 4G operator, Cyberspace Network Limited, and a platform for social and cognitive computing.

“The University of Abuja will be the first beneficiary, with the service scheduled for launch on the institution’s campus this week Wednesday. The usage is totally free. No payment, no subscription, no data purchase, and no need for modems. It is free Internet in the most usable form on the Wi-Fi".

"The Lagos State University will be next, followed in quick succession by the College of Agric, Lafiaji, and the University of Lagos. It is our own form of Corporate Social Responsibility. It is all about empowering the students to be globally competitive, and access to free Internet is the best way to empower the budding oncoming Generation-Z. The whole idea of this project is to ensure that future graduates from Universities across the country will compete with their contemporaries from other countries of the globe. More so, the surest way to be an entrepreneur is to acquiring Information and Communications Technology skills."

Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has said the provision of the free Wi-Fi was part of his administration’s effort to make the state work for all and sundry. There’s no doubt internet connectivity will enhance learning and interaction with peers outside the shores of the country if used wisely.

The only cause for concern her will be sustainability. This is not the first time moves will be made to provide free wifi services to students in tertiary institutions across the country. In what ways will this outlive the rest appears to be a story for another day
